La Invención concreta: Colección Patricia Phelps de Cisneros

"La Invención Concreta: Colección Patricia Phelps de Cisneros" is the first exhibition to be organized in Europe of the major Colección Patricia Phelps de Cisneros (CPPC), besides being the most complete to date.

Curated by Manuel Borja-Villel, director of the Museo Reina Sofia, and Gabriel Perez-Barreiros, director of the Colección Patricia Phelps de Cisneros, the exhibition shows about two hundred works -painting, sculpture, installation, collage and graphic art- which will release a key period of Latin American modernity (from the thirties to the seventies), many of them never seen before in Spain. It's confirmed, thus, the growing interest of the Reina Sofia Museum for the Latin American cultural scene and its vocation to occupy a place as a landmark museum of the south.

"La Invención Concreta" features masterpieces such as Hélio Oiticica's Box Bolide; Joaquín Torres-Garcia's Construcción en Blanco y Negro or Carlos Cruz-Diez; brasilian artists such as Mira Schendel, Lygia Clark or Lygia Pape; and argentinian artists such as Tomás Maldonado and Gyula Kosice, will be part of the show. Other relevant artists included at the exhibition, such as Alejandro Otero, Alfredo Hlito, Milton Dacosta, Aluísio Carvão, Alfredo Volpi, Willys de Castro, Judith Lauand, Jac Leirner, Antonieta Soto, César Peternosto, Rhod Rothfuss or Waltercio Caldas. In addition, an artwork by Piet Mondrian will be placed together with works of artists who were heavily influenced by the Dutch painter.
