Archives: 2007: Lo[s] Cinético[s]
Lo[s] Cinético[s]
Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía
27 March - 20 August 2007
Santa Isabel, 52, Madrid, Spain

This exhibition charts the plastic expressions of this will of kinetics from two basic postulates, the first of which defines and traces the kinetic work through art history from the beginnings of modernity up to today’s last artistic manifestations, without complying with strict periodicity and ratings, but from a transverse perspective. The second postulate tries to reinterpret the scope and meaning of kinetics in Latin America as an “own” contribution to modern art.

The exhibition focuses specially in the Paris of the sixties where around the gallery owner Denise René, a group of artists, many of them Latin-American, give a programmatical basis to kinetic art.

Part of the works has been exhibited in Spain for the first time and come from the world's leading museums, including MoMA in New York, the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris, the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York, the Metropolitan Museum of Art New York, the Tate Modern Gallery in London and the Nazionale d'Arte Moderna di Roma. Works also come from important galleries like Denise René and Nara Roesler Gallery.

The exhibition features more than 80 works by 45 Spanish and foreign artists.
