Within the Light Trap: Cruz-Diez in Black and White
Americas Society
Date:
04 February - 22 March 2014
Venue:
680 Park Avenue, New-York, USA

The America’s Society introduces in its exhibition venue of New York the photography exhibition by Carlos Cruz-Diez Within the Light Trap: Cruz-Diez in Black and White. The present selection of photographs, unpublished for the American public, were taken by the artist from 1942 to 1986. We find on them the artist’s fascination with landscapes and his relationship with the human side, his fascination with the outskirts of the city, as well as with the processions and festivities highly charged with religious symbolism such as the Dancing devils of Yare (Diablos danzantes de Yare) or the processions of San Pedro.

These are documents that have been stored for decades in the workshop archives and they clearly reflect the compositional sensibility, as well as the artist’s temperament behind the camera.

Watch the panel discussion with Carlos Cruz-Diez, Antonio Muñoz Molina and Gabriela Rangel.
