The Other Trans-Atlantic. Kinetic and Op Art in Eastern Europe and Latin America 1950s – 1970s
Garage Museum of Contemporary Art
Date:
17 March - 09 May 2018
Venue:
9/32 Krymsky Val st., 119049, Moscow, Russia

After its first venue at the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw, the exhibition "The Other Trans-Atlantic. Kinetic & Op Art in Central & Eastern Europe and Latin America" explores at the Garage Museum of Contemporary Art in Moscow a brief, but historically significant moment in the post-war period. Between the 50s and 70s, the trajectories of the Central and Eastern European and the Latin American art scenes converged when they developed a shared enthusiasm for Kinetic and Op Art. The exhibition recreates the image of an artistic tendency motivated by the notions of progress and science, machinery and engineering, construction and perception. In short, a new subjectivity engendered by a new objectivity.

The show will also be expanded, to include a special ephemeral intervention in the Atrium by Carlos Cruz-Diez, as well as two physichromies from 1964 and 1975. After the exhibition at Garage, the show will travel to SESC in São Paulo.
