The exhibition in the Kunstmuseum Bern and the Zentrum Paul Klee takes as its starting point the tradition of abstract and concrete art in Latin America since 1945. While Europe was recovering from war and destruction, a spirit of optimism and progress emerged in unscathed Latin America. Innovative artists like Maria Freire, Carlos Cruz-Diez and Enio Iommi developed a new abstract art with a utopian vision.

They wanted to use their art to stimulate a social and political consciousness, and contribute to a radical redesign of society. The exhibition traces the legacy of this period and provides an insight into the diversity of the artistic work of Latin America and the subjects that continue to preoccupy and inspire the continent.
